The beginning of this year has not been the best ever.
I have a lot of kids who have experienced a lot of trauma.
I’m sure that I will have chair-thrower stories at some point, but right now it’s just sad. So many of my sweethearts are living in the shelter and come in so sad every day.
One little girl refuses to enter the classroom every morning and I need to just give her love and space until she’s ready. I never know what my kids see before 8:25 each morning, but I know that school is a safe space. And by 9:30am, everyone has their guard down and laughter/misbehavior is in full-force. 🙂
Somehow, I’ve found the energy to be a super fun teacher; mostly because of my amazing next door neighbor-teacher-soulmate. She encourages me to do fun things every day, so I do those things.
For example, make slime.
Our color of the week is green.
We sing songs, write the word, read the word, color the word and paint for every color that we have.
But that wasn’t enough for GREEN!
So, we did this. . . and it rocked!
We also do a color hunt each week. I hide objects that are that color and the kids get to find each one. It’s so fun!
Today, we painted. I have a love-hate relationship with this activity. 🙂
During our literacy block, we reviewed sight words and letters in shaving cream. Man, I’m fun!
We also did our usual routine with our new letter and word of the week.
All of the above worksheets are from this LIFESAVER of a pack:
We’ve also been working hard on our writing.
I have the kids work on some of the words that we’ve learned, coupled with some sound spelling.
I’m so proud of my little sweeties!
Grab the above journal HERE.
I’ve introduced some basic sorts and so far, so good!
The above sorts and numbers are from my ABCs and 123s pack.
Today, I introduced letter/picture sorts and it went so much better than expected!

For our independent math center each day, the kids work on a number. Click on each picture to grab that resource.
My last bit of fun- I buy snack for my kids each day and it gets expensive. So, on a recent trip to the Dollar Tree, I picked up these bad boys.
Happy almost Friday!
